Jesus and Star Wars

At the moment Star Wars 9 is in the cinemas. Officially, this is probably the last episode. Star Wars is now more than 40 years old, the first episode came out in 1977.
Star Wars consists of 3 trilogies. The original trilogy with Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia and Darth Vader was filmed first. However, they are in the middle of the timeline, they are episodes 4, 5 and 6.
The 3 parts “How it all began” with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi were shot afterwards. And now finally episodes 7, 8 and 9 with a woman as heroine, namely Rey.

Star Wars is one of the most successful film hits in the world. In total, more than 10 billion dollars were made until today.

The core of the whole story is the fight between good and evil. The battle between the light force and the dark side of the Force. The Jedi represent the Good Force.
The good power stands for peace, freedom and life in general.
And the dark side, that’s the Empire. Bad guys. They stand for war, oppression and dictatorship.

My husband somehow never gets the whole Star Wars story. But he can’t really get the order right either!
Actually, the whole time it is about the spiritual image of our world. In the spiritual world we also have the good and the bad. God is the good one who wants peace and freedom for his children. But the devil wants something completely different for people. And on both sides, there are quite a few collaborators, fighters. The demons on the dark side and the angels and we Christians on the light side. According to the Bible, this fight is ancient. Long before mankind existed, there was a war in heaven. You can read about this in Revelation chapter 12, from verse 7.

But the question is, what can we as Christians learn from Star Wars?
First we can see what means the devil uses to take us away from God. In the first 3 episodes around Anakin Skywalker, the Emperor uses pride above all. Anakin is told again and again what a special hero he is and that he stands above all others. That opens the door to Anakin quite wide. But the Emperor really wins him over by showing him that his wife will die. Anakin tries to gain control over life and death and thereby save his wife.
So just when the circumstances in our lives are particularly difficult, we should not turn away from God and try to take control somehow. Only if we leave control to God, he can guide us according to his plan.

Besides, the Jedi always get a big problem when they are guided by anger and hate. In the end, it’s the same with us. If we let anger, hatred or any other bad thing into our heart, we throw Jesus out. We only look out for ourselves, and the devil has won again. But if we remain faithful to Jesus, if we keep handing over to him all the bad things that come up, then Jesus remains the victor.

But the most interesting thing we can learn about Star Wars is this: The greater the potential, the greater the attacks.
Anakin was the “Chosen One”. The Jedi hoped he would rid the world of the dark side. And of course he was number one on the Emperor’s list. Luke Skywalker and Leia were then the top targets of the dark side. For they were to use their power to defeat the Empire.
And finally the targets in the last 3 parts are Rey and the son of Han Solo, Ben.

So if sometimes you realize you’re in the line of fire, you should think about it. Maybe that’s why you have so many problems, because the devil has so much to lose. You are extremely valuable to Jesus. You are incredibly important to Jesus. And that’s why temptation may come around the corner for you more often.

The good news is that the good side always wins. Jesus defeated the evil side on the cross once and for all. Friends, just stay with Jesus no matter what happens.

Just like it says in 1 Corinthians:
Death has been swallowed up in victory?
Where, o death is your victory?
Where, o death, is your sting?

May the Force be with you!
